That's right, Sebastian turned two last week. It's been a busy couple of weeks, and we've been without a computer at home, so I haven't been updating the blog. Now I've got to make up for lost time, right?
We celebrated Sebastian's birthday a week early because his actual birthday fell on Waverly Days weekend (a very big deal for Grandpa). We had his birthday party at the park down the street from our house, and it was a fabulous day for it.
The next day, we went to my Uncle Dick and Aunt Annie's for a get-together with my mom's family. That was pretty cool, because one of my cousins has two little boys (they're both five) who are also from Guatemala. Sebastian hadn't met them yet. One of the boys said to Steve, "Did you know that Sebastian was born in Guatemala like me and my brother?" When Steve said yes, the next question was... "Well, why isn't he five? We're both five." Because of course, being from the same country... (when sharing this story with one of my friends, he speculated that a nation made up entirely of five-year-olds would be pretty scary.)
When we got to Sebastian's actual birthday, we went back to the park and had a photographer (the same one who took his pictures in January) meet us there for an hour. We got some great pictures and Sebastian had lots of fun running around the park and showing off for her.
That afternoon, we went to Uncle Rob's to swim in his pool. We had a fabulous time, and dinner was capped off by a chocolate Elmo birthday cake! It really doesn't get much better than that.
Last Sunday, we went to the Waverly Days parade. It's not nearly as huge as the Delano 4th of July parade that I used to go to. It was just about the right size and length for Sebastian (and us). We got to see Grandpa in the parade with the Knights of Columbus (but he didn't see us, so we got our Tootsie Rolls from someone else) and Uncle Gene drove a tractor in the tractor parade that ended the show. It was lots of fun. We got LOTS of candy, and left with a very tired boy.
Our weekdays have been punctuated by Storytime at the library on Tuesdays (although we had to leave early last week because someone wouldn't sit down) and many trips to various parks and playgrounds. We're still working on trying to take naps someplace other than the crib, but that's not going well at all right now. I have no idea how daycare does it, but they can get a whole room of toddlers to lie down on cots and sleep at the same time and I can't even get one to stay put. I guess I won't be quitting my day job to go into early childhood education any time soon!
