Three years ago, we went to Guatemala to celebrate Thanksgiving. We met Sebastian, and it was the most wonderful holiday ever for us. Since then, Thanksgiving has always meant a little extra to us, because we have so much more to be thankful for.
Fast forward from three years ago to last week. We walked into pre-school to pick Sebastian up, and there it was - the class had been talking about Thanksgiving, and each child had been asked what he or she was thankful for. I didn't read all of the responses, but I remember that Mikey was thankful for wedding dresses and another little boy was thankful for Spiderman. And Sebastian? He was thankful for his family. We were thrilled with his answer, and I felt a little proud of myself because my son was the only one whose answer made sense. I mean, Spiderman is great, and I had an awesome wedding dress, but...
So last Friday they did it again, after talking about Thanksgiving some more. And when I picked Sebastian up on Friday, what did it say he was thankful for? Mia - a little girl in his class.
His list of what he is thankful for has grown to include his cars, his choo-choo trains, and his toddler bed (which is odd, because he only slept in it a couple of times). His family doesn't make the list except with a lot of prompting from Mom and Dad. But it was the first thing on the list, and I guess that's what counts.
And he is still at the top of our list of things we are thankful for this Thanksgiving.
