Not to worry...

There's been some big news in the media concerning a local adoption agency which is being investigated by the Attorney General's office, and I've gotten lots of questions about it today from family and friends. This is, however, not the agency that we are using. I don't have any personal knowledge of this case, so I'm basing my impressions on what I've seen on the news and in the newspaper. I don't know how true the allegations against the agency are, but I suppose the Attorney General doesn't get involved in just anything, so it must have at least looked like there's really something wrong there.

That being said, I'm glad--really, really glad--that we spent a lot of time researching different adoption agencies when we started this process. While it is sometimes frustrating to not get all of the answers that I want, when I want them... I feel pretty certain that the agency we chose is ethical and that they will help us bring our son home. Just as a side note, there have been times lately that I've felt a little jealous of adoptive parents who are using smaller agencies, because it seems like those parents get more information about what is happening in Guatemala... but the news coverage of this incident reminded me that one of the reasons we chose our agency was because of their reputation. Some of the other agencies we visited made promises that seemed a little "too good to be true" or made us feel uncomfortable. I feel pretty secure that we made the right choice... but I'd still like more information!
