He's going to ask for a glass of milk.
Ah... the classic children's book that teaches the fine art of slippery slope reasoning. It can also be applied to home improvement.
We had a storm. Got a new roof. Needed new siding, so we decided that we would replace the windows first. (The windows are being installed today!)
Last night, we were moving furniture and such to make room for the window installers, and as I was cleaning the kitchen, I decided that I needed a Brillo pad. Went under the sink to see if there were any left, and discovered a leaky pipe. (But no Brillo pads.)
The following is a rough transcription of the conversation that ensued:
Joan: Um, Honey? I don't know if I really want to tell you this now, but... there's a leak under the sink.
Steve: How bad?
Joan: I don't really know. There's water. Under the sink. Not flowing through the pipes.
Pause.
Joan: Maybe, when we're done with the windows and the siding and we get the basement finished, we should get a new kitchen sink.
Pause:
Joan: And when we do that, we should think about a new kitchen counter.
Pause:
Joan: And some new cabinets.
Steve: Yeah. And if we're doing all of that, I don't really like the kitchen floor, do you?
End Scene.
(I couldn't bring myself to read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie to Sebastian, so we read If You Give a Moose a Muffin instead. Same concept, fewer rodents.)
