I may not be the best mommy in the world when it comes to knowing the exact details of many milestones - we missed quite a few while we were waiting for Sebas to come home, and others, well... I know he can walk and talk and that he's got a full set of teeth. He usually sleeps through the night, and I can pretty safely say that we're done with potty training. Most of these things happened a little bit at a time, though, so it's hard to pin-point the exact moment any of them happened.
Today, however, we have an actual milestone to report. Yes, today is the day that... Sebastian fell out of a tree for the first time. (I consider it a milestone and a first, because I'm pretty sure it's not going to be the last time that it happens.)
We were playing at my parents' house, and he wanted to "climb" trees, which means that I pick him up and put him in the tree.
He decided it would be fun to hang from the branches like monkey bars.
He decided it would be a good idea for Mommy to hold onto his feet.
He decided to swing like a monkey and then let go of the tree (while Mommy was still holding his feet).
I'm not sure if he decided this, or if gravity decided it for him, but he fell and hit his head on the ground.
Now, the ground was fairly soft, he didn't fall from that high, and I was holding his feet at the time so he didn't even hit that hard, but... I still feel bad, for two reasons.
First, I was playing with my son and he fell out of a tree.
And second, I know it's going to happen again and I didn't get that worked up over it.
(Really, a glass of milk was all it took to make it all better.)
When he was telling Steve about it, his version of the story was, "I was hanging from the tree and when Mommy came out, I had to fall."
Happy Mother's Day!
