Three Years Ago Today...

Steve and I flew to Guatemala. We checked into our hotel, tried to relax (unsuccessfully, if I remember correctly), and then waited. It seemed like forever - it was really an hour or two at the most. It's funny how that wait seemed like forever, but the past three years have flown by so quickly.

When Miriam (Sebastian's foster mother) and Carla (our attorney in Guatemala) came to the hotel with Sebastian that afternoon, our lives were changed forever, and I wouldn't trade what we have now for anything in the world.

Today is the day that we "officially" became a family - even though Sebastian was legally ours already (that happened on March 21) and even though we still had to make it through our appointment at the US Embassy (May 2) - today marks the anniversary of the day that our beautiful boy was placed in our arms.

(I wrote this last Tuesday, but didn't get around to posting it... It's been an amazing three years - they've gone by so quickly, and yet, in some ways, it seems like forever. It's weird. And I wouldn't have it any other way.)

Happy Anniversary of your family-ness. You got exactly the right child.
