Well, soccer and t-ball have been a bust. The first week, we went to both and we lasted about half an hour at each before Sebastian decided that he needed to sit with Mommy.
Week number 2 was not so good. We got to soccer just fine, played on the playground before we went over to the soccer field, and everything seemed great - except Sebas wouldn't let me go down the slide, because it was hot and cold and miserable - his words, not mine. The other little boy playing on the playground was very confused and actually believed what Sebastian told me about construction workers closing the slide and he went crying to his Daddy because he wanted to play on the slides.
We walked over to soccer, got his name tag, grabbed a soccer ball, and everything was great, right? Not quite. He was perfectly content to kick the ball around while the other children were arriving and getting settled, but once the coaches started to lead the group in some warm up activities, Sebas took off for the playground. I ran after him and gave him the choice of going back to soccer or going home. We went home.
The next day was worse. We had tickets for the Twins game, but I told Steve he should find someone to go with him because I didn't want Sebastian to miss T-ball. He'd had fun at t-ball the previous week, it was just too long at the end of a busy day. Sebas was home from preschool, so I figured he would be well rested and excited about going to t-ball. Nope. He decided that he wasn't going to go anywhere. We spent most of the day in our pajamas playing games and reading stories - not a bad way to spend a day, but I was hoping to get him to t-ball. Finally, I convinced him to at least play ball with me in the backyard. We had a blast with that, and then, out of nowhere, he asked if we could go bowling. We have coupons for free bowling, and it had been a long day, so even though I felt frustrated about skipping t-ball, we went bowling and played in the arcade there.
No soccer or t-ball this week due to Independence Day, but Sebastian has already informed me that he doesn't want to go next week. Next year we'll have to try soccer and/or t-ball during the morning rather than at the end of a busy day. Maybe that will help.
